What Others are saying ...
“I have watched with much interest as Ron’s ideas on Knowledge Asset Management have developed and crystallised over the past 25 years, from their first manifestations in an EU research project I supervised, through to the creation of the ISO 30401 Knowledge Management Standard, and now to this new book, incorporating recent progress on Artificial Intelligence.
Over the years, Ron and I have had ample opportunities to discuss the practical implications of his and my ideas on knowledge management, and these discussions have had a significant impact on my own work as a thought leader on knowledge management within the European Institutions in Brussels. With each interaction with Ron I learn something new. Like the fact that Ron enrolled on the University of Essex MSc Programme in Artificial Intelligence in 1988 (I completed that very same programme one year earlier, in 1987)!
Long before it became a trend and way before it became a necessity, Ron and I shared a passion for intelligence in all its forms, for continuous learning and adaptability, and for seeing the broader contribution knowledge management could make to better public policy, through better shared understanding, better data, science and evidence, and richer, more inclusive stakeholder relations.
With this new book, Ron continues to tie it all together nicely in a new reflection on how the unstoppable progress in AI will change everything, and yet despite this, how most of the things that matter to us as human beings will remain the same.”

“Ron Young is continuing his great systematized brilliance for KM wisdom. Here he is scouting for additional perspectives, among others with AI.
He pioneered the ISO 30401 for KM . Addressing the new Knowledge Economics is another KM stretch. Empowering the global talent potential is a must for the forthcoming generations wellbeing.
So in this book Ron Young is thoughtfully proceeding from his earlier knowledge philosophy book to generative knowledge assets of benefit for tomorrow’s value cultivation. “

"A practical guide - easy to follow and readable - on the varied aspects of KM. Ron's treatment on knowledge as an asset is significant! This area has been neglected over the decades, and needs a catalyst to advance it, to the point where it is calculated in a nation's GDP; and an organization's balance sheet. Hopefully, Ron's book will do that".
Michael Stankosky, DSc
former lead professor, Knowledge Management, George Washington University
Editor Emeritus, VINE, The Journal of Information & Knowledge Management Systems
“This is not only an inspiring read but a book demonstrating, in real time, the potential for productive collaboration between human expertise, knowledge and skills and emergent technology.
Written with passion for the subject, deep reflection, and insight it presents clarity on knowledge, in all its dimensions, and sets out hope for a better future by leveraging global knowledge and collective wisdom to meet the challenges and opportunities in our future economy shared with AI.
Crucially it portrays the need for a major transformation in our approach to learning and education, highlighting the prime need for the development of our cognitive capabilities such as critical thinking and creative problem solving.
While AI with built-in guardrails can be a valuable source of knowledge, information and facts, the book proposes that we will need to strengthen our softer skills to enable future human flourishing and planetary thriving and calls for a profound shift not only in our use of knowledge but the need for a revisionary mindset embracing economic and political collaboration over competition.
Not only readable and inciteful, but a practical guide to help secure a better and wiser future as we move forward in the age of AI.”
Dr Cathy Garner, FRSS, FRSA

“This book by Ron Young adds greatly to our understanding of AI and knowledge Management. It is particularly impressive that Ron used AI to sort out his accumulated notes and sources of information.
AI need not be seen as a tool for the destruction of human kind (as some commentators claim) or even as a method for cheating by students as some academics fear. AI can be used creatively to undertake a wide range of tasks from the mundane to the inspirational to help build and manage knowledge for the benefit of many.
The structure of the book enables the reader to dip in to the most vital sections or to read through to take the journey of understanding with the author.
Ron Young is a great presenter on the need to better manage knowledge in a structured and positive manner. His drive to share knowledge is clearly set out in this book.”

GURTEEN KNOWLEDGE
"I found the chapter on international standards particularly interesting, systemising and guiding us in the approach and methodologies we can adapt for success in this new economy. Sometimes we forget that so much thought has already gone into the “how-to” of this new economy, guiding us on effectively managing information security management, asset management, knowledge management, KM systems, innovation, risk management, data governance and yes, AI itself. As Ron says, use of these standards “can create a solid foundation for innovation, collaboration and value creation, whilst ensuring the responsible and ethical use of advanced technologies.
This is a good read. We need to stick our heads above the parapet every so often to see what is happening around us and Ron’s thesis moves us out of our day-to-day and gives us time to think about the wider societal and economic implications of the discipline we have chosen to spend so much of our time on."

Preface
As a passionate seeker of knowledge, I embarked on a transformative journey into the world of knowledge management three decades ago, driven by a vision of a future where every individual on Earth could instantly access and leverage the collective wisdom of humanity through the power of extraordinary human knowledge and experiences, new knowledge processes, intelligent digital systems and networks, the internet, the worldwide web and mobile devices.
This captivating idea, that knowledge could be democratized and made available to all, anytime and anywhere, started a fire within me that would shape the course of my life and work.
In 1988, I found myself at the doorstep of Essex University, UK, enrolling in an MSc program that promised to unveil the mysteries of artificial intelligence, knowledge science and knowledge technologies. Simultaneously, I immersed myself in the ancient traditions of yoga and meditation, studying mornings, evenings and weekends, to become a teacher with the British Wheel of Yoga.
This dual pursuit, delving into the realms of both cutting-edge technology and timeless wisdom, sparked a profound curiosity about the nature of knowledge itself—from the intuitive insights that arise in moments of deep introspection to the vast repositories of information that shape our understanding of the world. . . .
We stand at the threshold of a new era, one in which the boundary between human knowledge and artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly blurred, giving rise to unprecedented capabilities and challenges in what I see as an exponentially growing global knowledge and AI driven economy. The journey ahead will be one of exploration, adaptation, and continuous learning as we strive to harness the power of knowledge and innovation in service of the greater good.
It is my hope that by sharing the ideas, insights, and frameworks contained within this book, I can contribute to the collective understanding and innovative thinking required to build a future in which knowledge truly empowers and enlightens us all.
